Desert Sun Counselling and Resource Centre is a non profit social service organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for individuals, families and the communities in the South Okanagan.  We strive for a supportive environment where are citizens experience emotional and physical health and are participating and contributing members.

Desert Sun Counselling and Resource Centre will accomplish its mission through the skills, initiative and creativity of its trained staff while respecting the integrity, dignity, rights, diversity and confidentiality of the people served. 
 
Stopping the Violence:
 
Provides individual and/or group counselling, based on the needs of individual women, to women who have experienced sexual assault, violence in relationships or childhood abuse.
 
CAPC-- Community Action Program for Children:
 
Individual and group support for parents of children 0-6 and pre/post natal women.  Literacy and Parenting Programs, nutritional education, community kitchen, free lunch, an on-site child mider, pre/post natal viatmins and a weekly food certificate for pregnant women are provided. 
 
 

Clients' Rights & Responsibilities

 

Rights:

  1. To be treated with respect by counselors, clients and staff.
  2. To expect honesty from counselors, clients and staff.
  3. To have all information about self kept confidential (except when covered by law or agency policy). 
  4. To expect that all assigned activities are fair and reasonable.
  5. To expect that meetings will begin on time.
  6. To discuss concerns about any aspect of the treatment program with a counselor.
  7. To personal safety.
  8. To decide when to stop sessions.

 

Responsibilities:

  1. To treat all clients, counselors and staff with respect.
  2. To express feelings and opinions honestly.
  3. To keep all personal disclosures that occur in group sessions confidential and to accept the consequences should any personal information be disclosed.
  4. To participate to the best of one’s ability in all activities assigned by counselors.
  5. To make the commitment to attend all sessions and to phone in advance if unable to attend.
  6. To respect the personal safety of others.
  7. To make a commitment towards my personal goals.
  8. To own my own problems.
